This is definitely a small change but, interestingly enough, white and bright colors on computer monitors can use 20% more power than dark backgrounds. A company called Heap Media has tried to address this problem by creating a duplicate version of Google with a black background, called Blackle.
This is a simple way to reduce the use of energy by your computer monitor, which is the component that uses the most energy.

There is also http://www.Darkoogle.com which shows the option of "similar pages" in search result.
There are around 16 different versions of “black google” online. The best one I’ve found is www.cleanblack.com. Cleanblack is the only version that allows you to change the text colors of the google search results. Try it yourself by going to www.cleanblack.com/theme/
